Upcoming Changes to Walkabout Mini Golf
A message from Mighty Coconut’s Lucas Martell, creator of Walkabout Mini Golf
Hey everyone,
As you may have seen recently, the current state of VR game development is a challenging one, and studios of all shapes and sizes are needing to adapt. Unfortunately, we are no exception. In addition to the announced staff reductions, we are making a few changes to ensure that we can keep building the high-quality courses you’ve come to expect.
First, we will be raising the price of new DLC courses (starting with our next release) by $1 to $4.99 USD. We feel that’s the most direct way to support development as DLCs have grown in complexity. All previously released courses will stay at their current prices.
The next change is that we will no longer be releasing new courses on Pocket Edition (iOS). While we want to support as many platforms and ways to play as possible, keeping a completely unique mobile version of the game in lockstep with the VR platforms is a monumental task that slows down production much more than we had anticipated. We’d like to keep crossplay between VR and mobile functional for as long as we can, but we will also be sunsetting that at some point. We will be sure to announce that in advance once we do.
We will also be scaling back development of some of the additional activities like Employee Mode, Chess and Slingshots. We know how popular these are and hope to return to them soon, but they require a fair bit of energy that needs to be focused elsewhere at the moment.
The last adjustment is that we are expecting to release 6 courses this year instead of our more typical 7. There will be a longer break over the summer which will allow us a little bit of breathing room as we recalibrate our pipeline and get things working efficiently. We haven’t had more than 8 weeks between course releases in several years, so this will give us an opportunity to reset.
We feel confident that with these changes, Walkabout Mini Golf will be around for many, many courses to come. Thank you again for supporting the game, and all of us.
