Walkabout Love Stories

Bre and Ryan:

“My fiance and I met about 2 years ago. When I visited him for the first time he told me about Walkabout and how much he enjoyed spending time with people during the pandemic playing mini golf. I informed that I get motion sick and wouldn't be able to participate. With some determination and coaxing, he convinced me how beginner friendly it was. I tried his Quest 2, played a round of golf and fell in love. My fiance, Ryan and I continued to talk and get closer over the months but we were hundreds of miles apart. We always talked about meeting in VR.

When I was able, I bought a Quest 2 and was so excited to be able to golf and see him in VR since I couldn't see him in person often. We met weekly on virtual dates and golfed all of the time. It was our happy place and we loved completing all of the new courses, collecting the balls, and going on fox hunts. I remember the first DLC, El Dorado that we were able to play together when it came out! My Quest literally only has Walkabout on it and that's why I bought it.

Now, we're moved in together and both of us continue to play the game. We both constantly think about our time in game and how it was out safe place during our long distance. We both love the game tremendously and share with anyone we can! We even are talking about starting up our own league. We're so happy the game exists and love seeing all of the the new content that is created.”

Additional Stories:

  • “My Husband (63) purchased Walkabout Minigolf in August 2021. We only had one quest at that time and I (60) started playing and totally fell in love with this game. I had to go to Germany all of September and couldn't wait for the quest 2 to be available to buy just so I could get one to take with me on my trip. It was so awesome to be able to play with my husband from across the ocean. It made it so much better to be apart for that time. We played every day then and I still can't be a day without the walkabout. I’ve now joined discord and met so many great players that are always so nice and give me many tips on how to improve my game. Meanwhile we got our two daughters to buy an Oculus Quest each, just so they can play with us also. It really turned into a family affair. So funny they love the game just as much as my husband and I. We love all your courses and always excited for the new ones to come out. You all are doing an amazing job. Thank you for bringing so much fun too our lives especially in these times of social distancing.”

  • “Fiancé and I can play mini golf during holidays, but we play it like a tournament, taking short videos about the competition and narrating it like it was on live tv it all started in Croatia, but we also played in Spain, Greece and of course here in Hungary. we play this Walkabout mini golf together, sometimes we play it as a tournament and write down the results so later on we can compare it as well”

  • “I really want to thank you. A bonding experience between my dad and I was always playing putt putt / mini golf. He has Alzheimer’s so we can't play anymore. But today was a good day and we played on Oculus and brought us back to those days”

  • “Hearing my father giggle for the first time was a weird experience... (his second hole in one in a day on Seagull Stacks). The excitement he has in his voice when he finds a ball of when he makes a great shot is worth the price of the game alone. We currently play at least a round a week but that ends up being three or four games instead.”

  • “Bought my fiancée a second headset so we can play and hang while I’m on the road touring”

  • “Date night. I had bought Walkabout for Steam VR on my home office desktop, and just for fun to introduce my girlfriend to VR, had her try out Walkabout (we were sharing headset). When I realized it was a game for doing cross play, I went out and bought the Quest 2 for the main purpose of getting Walkabout to do together as the Quest was standalone. We’ve now been casually enjoying golf date nights approximately every other week or on a new course drop, and have been very much improving our stroke games / racing each other to find the lost balls / fox hunts on the two new courses.”
